Historic Charm Meets Modern Functionality: A Kitchen Renovation in a 200+ Year-Old Home

Transforming a kitchen in a 200+ year-old home comes with its fair share of challenges—from uneven floors and scattered support beams to ceilings just shy of seven feet. Despite these constraints, we executed this renovation with thoughtful planning and seamless execution, delivering a timeless yet highly functional kitchen for our clients.

The original space was small, dark, and inefficient. Our clients dreamed of a kitchen that blended traditional charm with farmhouse touches and the conveniences of modern living. To make this vision a reality, we reimagined the entire layout—expanding into an underutilized hallway and creatively repurposing the space beneath the stairs to maximize every square inch.

A new sink area near the back patio doors makes outdoor entertaining a breeze, while also serving as a convenient and stylish coffee station. Custom cabinetry and clever storage solutions throughout—including pull-outs under the stairs for cleaning supplies—helped us bring function and order to the space. We also preserved and repurposed the original fireplace by integrating it into a built-in oven feature, adding character and practicality.

To maintain a clean, cohesive look, the electrical panel was concealed behind custom cabinetry, which also serves as a walk-in closet. Panel-ready appliances—including the fridge, freezer, and dishwasher—ensure a seamless aesthetic, while paneled ceilings elegantly hide imperfections and unify the space.

The result is a beautifully balanced kitchen that respects the home's rich history while offering all the comfort and efficiency of a modern-day design.
