A Fresh Take on Country Living, Warmth, Function & Country Charm
When our clients came to us, storage and counter space were two of the biggest challenges with their existing kitchen. Set in a beautiful country setting, their home had a warm, traditional feel, with many existing furnishings they planned to keep. Our goal was to create a fresh, updated kitchen that still complemented the character of their home.
With the kitchen positioned between two exterior walls and a staircase, major structural changes were limited. Instead, we focused on making better use of the existing footprint. We removed a poorly designed walk-in pantry, relocated the refrigerator, and created custom cabinetry to conceal existing plumbing and venting. These changes allowed us to extend the countertop and add significantly more functional storage.
Along the stove wall, we removed the upper cabinetry and introduced a custom walnut hood fan as a striking focal point, helping the kitchen feel larger and more open. To make up for the lost storage, we designed a custom built-in for the adjoining dining room, replacing an under-scaled buffet with beautiful display space, additional storage, and a dedicated coffee and bar area. Complete with a wine fridge and pocket doors that hide away everyday clutter, the built-in was designed to feel balanced, functional, and intentional.
By carrying a cohesive colour palette and complementary materials between the kitchen and dining room, the two spaces now feel beautifully connected. The result is a kitchen that offers far more storage and function while feeling open, warm, and perfectly suited to its country setting.
